EPO found at the Red Mile Horse Racing Doping

According to the Paulick report (EPO and Aranesp in Horse Racing) , the use of EPO or Aranesp (illegal blood doping agents) has been found in race horses in out of competition testing at The Red Mile in Kentucky.

Unfortunately, due to the oversight in the rule books of racing in Kentucky, there is no provision for testing out of competition, the trainers involved in these positive tests may not be prosecuted.

We can all hope that all racing regulatory bodies see the urgency and seriousness of this type of difficult to detect horse doping and all work together to expand testing and see to it that any violators are punished with the most severity possible. There is no room in horse racing for trainers that are willing to use powerful drugs that are currently not being detected well, so those that are caught need to be punished with lifetime suspensions in many observors’ opinion.

There is interesting discussion on the race doping subject on a standardbred message board called horseplop, red mile positives at Lexington, but it remains whether they are just speculations or not.
